About Our History

The Everything Shoppes has changed locations several times over the years, and new shoppes have been opened in various communities to serve residents; some worked, and others didn’t. The Senior Council’s commitment to serving the residents of Schoharie County, particularly senior residents, remains central to its mission today.

1971 – The first used clothing store was started on Main Street in Richmondville (known as the SCCAP Store) by Schoharie County Community Action Program as a benificial need of residents of Schoharie County.

1972 – A second SCCAP store was opened on Union Street in Cobleskill.

1973 – Due to the uncertainty of funding for SCCAP and the need to continue this worthwhile service, the stores were turned over to the sponsorship of the Schoharie County Council of Senior Citizens, Inc., effective August 1, 1st 1974, and were re-named and became known as the “Everything Shoppes.” Middleburgh “Everything Shoppe” opened in the Beretz building on Main Street.
